Tråd: E1820 full speed in DOVADO UMR
Halloj,
Jag skriver detta på engelska eftersom det kan hjälpa andra googlare som letar också efter denna lösning.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I have a couple of Huawei E1820 modems. One is from Tele2 Sweden, and the other is from Tre ("3") Sweden. Both are network unlocked in their shipping state. Both came with firmware version 11.812.03.00.00 on them.
When combined with the DOVADO UMR (or Linux in general for that matter), we were only able to get less than 3Mbps on the downlink speed. The uplink speed was a little over 1Mbps, which is fairly ok. However, the modem itself is designed to be 21Mbps (theoretical air interface speed). When used directly in the PC, I was able to get 6Mbps.
We tried getting a hold of someone at Huawei to point us to the right direction, but to no avail. With a bit of Googling, I was able to find a newer firmware for this model of modem.

This is (version 11.820.03.00.00), so I was able to upgrade both operator branded modems with this firmware without any issues.
I tested both modems separately in the DOVADO UMR and each test result came back with 6.8Mbps down and 2.2Mbps up
I got pretty much the same results when used directly in the PC as well.
As a notice of warning:
I wouldn't recommend anyone inexperienced with modem firmware upgrades to do so carelessly. If you plan on performing such an upgrade of your USB modem, then be very attentive when it comes to following the instructions.
After all, you don't want to ruin it since it's a one shot try! If you are unsure about the procedure, then contact your operator first or visit the store.
PS: I have ordered the Huawei E182e model as well, and will carry out the same procedure as the new firmware seems to be made for both models.
Cheers!
