Hi folks,
Alright - after spending many manhours on this during the past week, we have now managed to confirm something here. It is a half-bug, you can say. The issue seems to have begun only a few months ago; over a month after we released 5.0.16 (the one that fixed the instability issue, remember?). During our 5.0.16 testing period (Dec-end of Feb), it NEVER popped up as a problem; hence Telenor must have done something in their network in March/April to cause this particular BBK speed issue. Nearly all of our tests now conclude at 40Mbps(-ish). If you use the same USB modem + router with any other network (Telia), you'll get full throttle speed. However, none of this affected FTP, only BBK for the most part.
So here's the tricky pickle:
The BBK issue ONLY concerns Telenor 4G subscriptions together with the 4GR if using Windows and MAC. You get full speed on BBK with Linux. And as mentioned earlier, you also get full speed with other operators on the same hardware.
Now that we know this, our next major firmware update has already been patched, scheduled for release within the coming few weeks. Earlier today I witnessed a Windows laptop fire up BBK (through a 4GR) and reach 78Mbps in a room with 64% signal strength. FTP reported close to 90Mbps.
We will not distribute any test firmwares in volume until then due to some new additions we would like to announce later.
I hope that sheds enough light on the matter as we try to complete our work ASAP.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Sam
